SNAP Adopt a Pet fee letter
We get told often that $175.00 adoption fee is to high. Let me brake it down on what you get for that fee: The dogs that the shelters ask us to take are dogs that would have been killed because: scared, sick, abused or just being. These fosters pets take supplies, medical, and time to bring them to the point of something you want to adopt. Anyone that has adopted a dog from us can tell you that they slip right into their lives as if they have been there the whole time.
You are adopting a pet that has it shots, microchip, NO fleas, wormed and spayed or neutered (by law rescue dogs must be fixed. Division 14 Chapter 1.5 30520. Control agencies, shelters, or rescue groups; spaying or neutering requirements). Most of our foster pets do not come spayed or neutered. We have to pay for that.
Our foster pets have been or started to be housebroken/pee pad trained, crate trained, socialized and leashed trained. We have also tried to take care of any medical (all fosters come with upper respirator infection) that we know about. There is also the fact most come underweight, hair damaged/missing, skin dry/damaged. These issues are all addressed.
We also know our fosters because we live with them. So we can make the best judgment on home placement. That is very important when it comes to adoptions. Placing right foster pet with the right family. (because we do have a lot riding on adopter being happy). Every dog returned no matter how long they have been in the adopted family, puts a strain on our resources. (we do not get any funding from SNAP spay neuter action project. We have to cover our own expenses thru adoption fees/fundraising/donations).
There is also things that are not thought about. Time spent at events (fosters/shelter dogs have to be picked up and returned) and meet/greets (if a adopter does not show up for a meet/greet. Or foster is not adopted for some reason. We are still out the time). We are a very very small rescue and only have a small amount of fosters. So placing a foster with the right foster home is very important to make sure that foster gets what it needs. There is also gas at the price we are all paying.
With out Fosters and volunteers we could not do all the above on the budget we have. They are the back bone of getting just one foster from shelter to adoption. With out their true dedication to preserving the life of just one pet, that would have been euthanized for the reason of others not taking responsibility for their own actions. We could not get all of it done.
We are for adoption of any kind. This is just to let you know what your adoption fee/donations covers.
Thank you
carla
