PLEASE ADOPT A CHIHUAHUA TODAY...THEY ARE LOVING DOGS THAT LOVE TO CUDDLE
http://ping.fm/yNWBtIn the last 12 months San Diego animal shelters have taken in 4,700 Chihuahuas, a number which increased by 1,000 from the 12 months prior. The influx in Chihuahuas at San Diego shelters has largely resulted from Hollywood films like Legally Blonde and Beverly Hills Chihuahua glorifying the diminutive breed , and its spotlight at the choice celebrity "purse dog" furthering their popularity.
And, like any passing craze, when the Chihuahua fever died down, many dogs found themselves put out with last season's fashions. Earlier this year, Chihuahuas came to account for 30 percent or more of California shelters' dog populations.
But thanks to Kinder4Rescue's Project Flying Chihuahua, many chihuahuas will soon be adopted to loving families across the country. With help from Grey's Anatomy actress (and founder of Heigl's Hounds of Hope) Katherine Heigl and American Airlines, the Studio City-based rescue has sent more than chihuahuas in to shelters New Hampshire, where small dogs are hard to come by. The Humane Society for Greater Nashua in New Hampshire has found homes for the first 25 dogs it received and has a waiting list of 100 who also want to adopt a chihuahua.
These first "flying Chihauhuas" help to alleviate swollen shelters in San Diego, which house more than 300 chihuahuas collectively and take in 300-plus each month. Currently, Chihuahuas are euthanized in San Diego at a rate second only to pit bull euthanization. adpot today!!!!!!!!!!!! go to.....
